The curtain was officially raised on the Manx football season with a dramatic clash in the Eric Fletcher Charity Shield as Premier League champions Ayre United faced off against FA Cup winners Rushen United FC on Friday evening. The game saw two evenly matched teams push each other, it was a late, contentious goal that ultimately decided the result.

Rushen United as winners of the 2024 FA Cup will play league champions Ayre United in the curtain raiser to the Manx football season in a repeat of the 2022 fixture.

On that occasion Rushen won the Charity Shield for the first time in its history, running out 3-0 winners with goals from Joe Reid, Jamie Johnson and a Jamie Cadwallader penalty.

The future is bright at the “Croit” following the Under 21 team’s well deserved victory in the 2023 Cowell Cup competition.

The Bowl was set alight as the highly anticipated Isle of Man Football Association Kirby Estates Cowell Cup final unfolded, pitting Onchan A.F.C against Rushen United FC in a clash that promised to showcase the pinnacle of U21’s football on the island. And boy, did it deliver! With moments of sheer brilliance, heart-stopping saves, and contentious decisions, this match had it all.
